刘子龙,河北唐山人。祖籍天津武清。原中国科学院管理学院蜡染艺术研究所所长、高级工艺美术师、教授、中国美术家协会会员、“中国工艺美术学会——刘子龙工作室”学术带头人。中国彩色蜡扎染艺术专利发明人,被誉为“中国彩色蜡扎染第一人”、“中国现代蜡扎染艺术开拓者”、“中国蜡染绘画之父”。
刘子龙的现代蜡扎染保留了中国传统的艺术元素,实现了传统文化与现代科技,东方文明与西方艺术语言的对接,使蜡染艺术成为中国的独立画种。其抽象性作品影响着艺术家实践的创作热情,他是中国20世纪80年代初抽象绘画的实践者。他由再现自然物象的艺术观转向对客体物象的艺术表现观,使他的作品更加抽象化。 他还是一位集油画、彩墨画、工艺美术、艺术设计为一体的复合型艺术家。其先验思想和实践者精神在中国艺术界引起关注。

 

1984年,在中国美术馆正厅举办了“刘子龙蜡染绘画展”。国内外50多家新闻媒体以多国语言和文字对外宣传。子龙蜡染画被列为国家教委初中美术教材。

1986年河北电视台拍摄了电视专题片“五彩的梦——记中国纤维艺术家刘子龙”,该片赴日本、澳门等国内外传播宣传。中国政府委派北京科教电影制片厂和上海科教电影制片厂拍摄中国艺术大师齐白石、徐悲鸿、李可染、刘海粟专题影片之后,上海科教电影制片厂特别拍摄了 “刘子龙的蜡染绘画” 电影专题片并译成七国语言发布157个国家对外进行文化交流。

1991年新加坡文物馆举办了“刘子龙油画展”;1992年刘子龙的油画作品应新加坡文化部邀请参加了新加坡华人文化节。同年,新加坡艺术协会、新加坡美术家协会再次在琼州会馆举办了“刘子龙油画展”暨学术座谈会。1997年澳大利亚北太平洋艺术机构在墨尔本举办了“刘子龙蜡染画展”。其作品曾先后在法国、日本、香港、新加坡、澳大利亚展出。子龙设计的纺织品出口五大洲80多个国家。其作品曾获第五届亚太国际博览会金奖、95’中国专利十年成就展金奖、中国民间美术展特等奖。其绘画作品被中国美术馆及意、法、美、澳、新加坡等多国文化机构和知名人士吴作人先生、张仃先生、新加坡富豪郭氏家族、香港华侨商业银行董事主席邱氏家族、澳大利亚墨尔本华人领袖收藏。

刘子龙被列入“中国科协人才库”、“中国美术家年鉴”、“当代中国”等大型丛书。子龙蜡染绘画被列为国家教委初中美术教材。
出版:《刘子龙油画集》、《子龙蜡染画集》、《刘子龙蜡染专辑》《子龙彩墨画集》、《钢笔水彩画集》和《刘子龙艺术专辑》;论著:《论艺术与商品的时代观念》、《论西方绘画艺术的再现与表现》、《蜡染艺术纵横谈》、《国际流行花色分析》、《试析抽象性速写》等。其论文收录在《中国民间美术论文集》、《中国民间工艺》、《2002∕2010年中国科协年会》、《美术与设计》等核心书刊。

Liu Zilong’s artistic career

Liu Zilong, with his family origin in Tangshan, Hebei Province, is director and professor at Batik Institute, Administration School of Chinese Academy of Sciences, senior craft artist, member of China Artists Association, and academic leader of China National Arts & Crafts Society Liu Zilong Studio. A patented inventor of colored batik art, he is honored No. 1 in China Colored Batik, Pioneer of Modern Batik Art of China and the Father of China Modern Batik Painting.

Liu Zilong’s modern batik painting keeps traditional Chinese cultural elements, realizing integration of the traditional culture and modern technology and oriental civilization and western artistic language, and making it an independent painting art variety in China. He is also versatile in the oil painting, ink painting, craft art and artistic design. His transcendental thinking and practicer spirit caught attentions of the art circle of China and his abstract thinking led the experimental creation passion of Chinese artists. He was a pioneer of the abstract painting in the early 1980s and his shift of outlook on arts from natural image reproduction to the artistic expression of objects makes his works more abstract.

In 1984, Liu Zilong’s Painting Exhibition was successfully held by a governmental organization in the main hall of National Art Museum of China, which was covered by more than 50 news media in different languages, such as China Art Weekly, People’s Daily, Chinese Culture, China Radio International, CCTV, Australia Herald and Lianhe Zaobao of Singapore.

The governmental publicity department especially issued a document to publicize Liu’s research results and produced the TV special Colorful Dream – Fiber Artist Liu Zilong, which was distributed to Japan and Macao for cultural exchange. The Chinese government assigned Beijing Scientific & Educational Film Studio and Shanghai Scientific & Educational Film Studio to produce the special films about the great artists Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Li Keran and Liu Haisu, and after that Shanghai Scientific & Educational Film Studio especially produced a special about Liu Zilong - Liu Zilong’s Batik Painting, which was translated into seven languages and showed in 157 countries.

Singapore Civilization Museum held Liu Zilong Oil Painting Show for him in 1991. In 1992, Liu was invited by the Ministry of Culture of Singapore to Singapore International Festival to give a speech at the international academic forum. In the same year, Liu Zilong Oil Painting Show cum Academic Seminar was held in Qiongzhou Hall by Singapore Art Society. In 1997, Australian Northern Pacific Co. held Liu Zilong Batik Painting Show in Melbourne. Liu’s works were exhibited in France, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

Liu’s works won the gold prize in the 5th Asia-Pacific International Expo, the gold prize in the 10-Year Achievements Expo of Patent Products in 1995, the top grade prize of Chinese Folk Art Exhibition, among others. His designs were adopted by more than 80 countries across five continents and his paintings are collected by the National Art Museum of China and cultural institutions of Italy, France, Japan, the US and other countries as well as artists and collectors.

Liu is included in the Talent Bank of China Association for Science and Technology, Yearbook of Chinese Artists and Contemporary China Pictorial. His publications include Liu Zilong Oil Painting Collection, Zilong Batik Paintings, Liu Zilong Batik Special, Zilong Colored Ink Paining Collection, Pen Watercolor Painting Collection and Liu Zilong Art Special. His works include On the Epoch Concept of Art and Commodity, On Representation and Expression of Western Painting Art, On Batik Art, and Analysis on International Fashionable Patterns and his papers were collected in the Proceedings of Chinese Folk Art, 2002Annual Meeting of China Association for Science and Technology, Fine Art and Design, etc.
